Edinburgh Marina Hyatt Spa & Conference Hotel proposals praised as long overdue by Lord Provost

Edinburgh Marina Holdings, the developer of the landmark Edinburgh Marina scheme, has been praised at a public meeting held last night to reveal the revised Hyatt Spa & Conference Hotel proposals.

Frank Ross Right Honourable Lord Lieutenant and Lord Provost praised the proposals as long overdue, stating: “Edinburgh Marina must be the only city in the world which has a fantastic shoreline and a tremendous view and has turned it’s back on it for the last 50 years, when it has the potential to be a thriving community.”

Last night’s public meeting was held at the Old Gunpowder Store which was fully renovated last year and serves as the office and showroom for Edinburgh Marina Holdings.

The proposals of the revised Hyatt Hotel comprise remodelled ground floor layout with an enhanced main entrance with separate entrances to the hotel, banqueting suite and brasserie. One of the new features is the dedicated EV Taxi Rank, which will provide free naturally sourced electricity to EV cab drivers – it is believed to be a first for Scotland and the UK. The revised internal layout now includes provision of a spa pool, amongst other additional guest facilities.

The revised hotel layout plans will provide 160 hotel rooms and 78 serviced apartments which will all be operated by Hyatt Regency, the leading international hotel brand.

In addition to the new Hyatt Spa & Conference Hotel, the state-of-the-art £500m Edinburgh Marina development also includes; a world class marina comprising 427 full-serviced berths with 24/7 access at all states of tide, new homes for sale and for rent, luxury living for retirement scheme, Chestnut Yard medical hub and neighbourhood shopping.

Commenting at the public meeting, Frank Ross Honourable Lord Lieutenant said: “With the pressure we have on housing in the city, our plans tell us we are 30,000 houses short today… It’s imperative that local communities understand what’s going on, and importantly that they buy into it, so I’m delighted that this type of activity is on the go.”

Charles Price, spokesman for the Edinburgh Marina Holdings, added: “The Lord Provost is right, this development is long overdue. Dealing with the Edinburgh Planners is unnecessarily frustrating, and many of you this evening have rightly echoed my comments about the interminable and unjustified delays. This is not just a property development, it is a lifestyle development, which means that all the components need to be in place to serve the community. That is our goal.”
