Old Queen Street Cafe, Westminster's new British restaurant, opens 5 June
27 May 2023
Old Queen Street Cafe, situated in the political heartland of Westminster, is formally opening its doors to the public, politicos and parliamentarians from Monday 5 June.
The all-day brasserie’s menus focus on British producers and ingredients rather than traditional recipes - think Coronation Chicken sandwich - Chicken Schnitzel, Lettuce and Coronation Mayo, Beetroot Carpaccio with Horseradish Yoghurt, Beetroot Ketchup and Toasted seeds and Chorizo, Octopus & Potato Warm Salad with Citrus Gremolata. There will also be weekly seasonal specials making the best of the produce on offer.
"Our goal with this brasserie is to offer a fresh perspective on British cuisine," said Shelagh Ryan (Food Director at OQSC and Founder of Lantana). "We wanted to celebrate the rich history and traditions of British cooking while also pushing the boundaries and introducing new flavours and techniques. We aim to work with the very best British suppliers ensuring guests are having the best produce these Isles have to offer." The menu has been brought to life by Executive Chef Leo De Oliveria Araujo and Head Chef Elliot Spurdle.
British producers have been selected because of their outstanding work in their field. Smoked salmon is sourced from Smokin’ Brothers, Meat from O’Shea Butchers, Cobble Lane Cured is doing the charcuterie, Cheese from St James Cheese - all the produce sings quality and is transformed, often simply, into the most delicious dishes by the team.
Being an all day brasserie, customers are able to enjoy breakfast, lunch, cocktail hour and dinner coupled with brunch on Saturday and Sundays. Highlights from the breakfast menu include Bakewell French Toast Brioche filled with cherry compote, vanilla cream and almond frangipane, Mushrooms on Toast sautéed mushrooms, mushroom paté, poached egg, spinach & pickled onions and of course Full English poached eggs, cumberland sausage, streaky bacon, roast tomato, roast mushroom, black pudding and toast.
