AA Hospitality reveals UK’s top eco hotels

AA Hospitality has announced the shortlist for its Eco Hotel of the Year award, ahead of the AA Hospitality Award ceremony next month.

Revealing the most environmentally friendly hotels in the country, the hotels shortlisted for the AA Eco Hotel of the Year Award are: The Grove, Chandlers Cross, Hertfordshire; Aviator, Farnborough, Hampshire and Carbis Bay Hotel, St Ives, Cornwall

The Eco Hotel of the Year Award recognises a clear commitment to sustainability, demonstrated through good practice and policy to make a positive contribution to reducing impact on the environment. The Grove’s environmental policies include moving towards a paper free administration, as well as partnering with an electric car taxi firm to ensure guests can travel in a sustainable way. Aviator provides bikes to reduce guests’ car use, commits to extensive recycling, and uses local suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint of their culinary offerings. Carbis Bay Hotel has installed energy efficient systems, has planted trees and plants to encourage wildlife conservation, and utilises environmentally friendly chemicals in cleaning processes.

Last year’s winner was Fairmont St Andrews, Scotland, which was praised for its commitment to regular beach cleaning, energy saving and creative recycling schemes.

The Eco Hotel of the Year winner will be announced on Monday 23rd September at the AA Hospitality Award ceremony at Grosvenor House, hosted by Kate Silverton.

Other categories at the AA Hospitality Awards include Hotel of the Year; Hotel Group of the Year; Spa of the Year; Housekeeper of the Year; Chef of the Year; Restaurant of the Year; AA Wine Award; AA Lifetime Achievement of the Year.
